Smart-but-ineffectual journalist Dan “We use euphemisms!” cant decide between his girlfriend, loving-but-clingy waitress Alice, or his lover cold-but-intellectual photographer Anna. Anna herself cant decide between Dan and honest-but-thuggish “You’re bloody gorgeous!” doctor Larry. The film, as Tarantino might put it, puts the four leading characters in a box and then takes them apart.

Film Review

I have seen this movie quite a lot of times now. I can see myself watching it again and again. This movie is so powerful. An unique movie on its own way. It gives a viewer to create its own picture how things have developed between the scenes cause almost each scene is partitioned by some set of time. The cast is superb. Julia Roberts is very beautiful. Jude Law looks like a classic self-searching young Englishman. Clive Owen was awesome because of his macho-image. But all my love goes to Natalie Portman. She is so cute, sexy and confident. You gotta love Natalie. I believe her smile makes everybody smile. The tagline for the movie tells it all. If you believe in love at first sight, look closer.

First of all, what was the purpose of making this film. It did not entertain nor was it meaningful in any way. I am what is considered elderly, but I don't expect every movie to be Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Language used in context with the movie is alright. But the content of this went way beyond language and sex. It was, to be direct, disgusting. Worst of all, it has greatly lowered my admiration of Julia Roberts. With all of the good movies she has made, why did she lower herself to be involved in this crap. With all the wonderful story lines out there, this was not a movie I would recommend to anyone. Someday her children will watch their mother's performances. Will they be proud of her after this movie.

Maybe I got a spider-sense, but as soon as I saw the boring opening credits with that dull song, I awaited a stinker and I wasn't proved wrong. This four stars big Hollywood production is worthy of our best French specialty, the "art house cinema": the recipe goes like this: shoot the cast talking, babbling endlessly, putting the audience to sleep with silly, hollow lines, with no visual directing, just a close-up of them sitting in a spare room. That's the thing here: multiply this by 10 (the number of sequences here because they are quite long during about 9 minutes each) and you got the full story. I hoped to take a tour in London but with this movie, you stay indoor.Beyond this poor visual, the substance is painfully lacking: it's A who is in love with B but who prefers finally C that likes D. For sure, B and D meet "by accident" (no kidding, in a city big as London) while A and C cheats together. Then, all of them split to rejoice as if nothing e…
